We speelden talloze versies, zelfs een keer met publiek erbij. Ik wilde uitpakken met iets geweldigs. Maar hoe meer ik dat probeerde, hoe vaster ik liep in reflexen en dwangmatige gewoontes. Ik kon mezelf niet aanhoren, het klonk allemaal als het getwijfel en het gebulder van mijn veel te luidruchtige ego. De laatste halve dag, de wanhoop nabij, stelde ik Teun en Louise voor om de nummers los te laten en gewoon te spelen. Dit uur staat op deze plaat—hier en daar wat opgesmukt, maar zo goed als ongeknipt. Eindelijk liet ik los; ik gaf de ruimte aan een gezamenlijk gesprek waarin we samen zongen en dansten. Dit was een moment waar ik jaren later nog steeds graag naar luister, en dat ik daarom nu wil delen. Het knaagt nog steeds aan me—o, onverbiddelijk ego—dat dit me niet lukt binnen de structuur van geschreven composities. Ik zal er vrede mee moeten nemen. Dit is een plaat gemaakt in een moeilijke periode, een ode aan de vele slapeloze nachten die me toen te beurt vielen. Er was toen voor mij No Future—geen toekomst. Na de opnames hebben Teun en Louise weinig meer van me gehoord. Ons trio speelde daarna nauwelijks nog en doofde uit. Ze vragen zich vast af waar ik was en waarom dit gebeurde. Langs deze weg wil ik hen nu eindelijk bedanken voor de fantastische muzikanten en prachtige personen die ze zijn. NEW RELEASE - No Future Digital release 30/08/26Vynil release September&nbsp; 26’ Over two sessions spanning three days, we recorded music: songs by Louise and myself. We played countless versions, even once with an audience. I wanted to deliver something grand. But the harder I tried, the more I got stuck in reflexes and compulsive habits. I couldn't stand the sound of myself; it all sounded like the hesitation and bluster of my far too loud ego. On the final half-day, close to despair, I suggested to Teun and Louise that we drop the songs and just play. That hour is what's on this record—embellished here and there, but virtually unedited. I finally let go, opening up space for a shared conversation where we sang and danced together. This was a moment I still love listening to years later, and that is why I want to share it now. It still gnaws at me—oh, relentless ego—that I could not achieve this within the structure of written compositions. I will have to make peace with that. This record was made during&nbsp; a&nbsp; difficult period, an ode to the many sleepless nights that befell me back then. For me, there was No Future. After the recording, Teun and Louise didn't hear much from me. Our trio barely played after that and faded out. They must wonder where I went and why it happened. Through this note, I want to finally thank them for being the fantastic musicians and beautiful people they are. Het bataljon blazers van toen maakt deze keer plaats voor een strijkersensemble, de drums worden vandaag geflankeerd door een batterij percussionisten. En opnieuw sluit muzikale reus ‘Magic’ Malik Mezzadri de rangen. Zijn eerst grote liefde in de jazz was Sonny Rollins en vooral dan zijn trio albums&nbsp; “Live at the Village Vanguard” en “Freedom Suite”. Een groot deel van zijn conservatorium tijd bestond uit spelen in trio met Teun Verbruggen en Christophe Devisscher. Vansina’s eerste echte band was het Vansina-Verbuggen-Gudmundsson trio. Dit trio bestond 8 jaar en bracht 3 albums uit in trio “Trio Music”, “In Orbit” , “St. Cecilia Recordings” en eentje ft. Magic Malik en Jozef Dumoulin “Tokio Quantize”. Nu vele jaren later, midden in corona tijdperk, leerde Vansina de nog jonge Louise Van Den Heuvel kennen. Na slechts enkele repetities wist Vansina dat het goed zat, dat er nieuw trio geboren was. Een trio dat onversneden jazz speelt, op zoek gaat naar de essentie van de muziek, risico’s neemt en met enorm veel vertrouwen in elkaar samen speelt. De ondertussen 25 jaar lange samenwerkingen in tal van projecten tussen Vansina en Verbruggen vormt van hen een symbiotisch duo. Louise slaagt er in met jeugdige energie, vertrouwen en branie zich mee deel te maken van hun muziek. Net als Gulli Gudmundsson in het VVG trio levert Louise ook composities aan. Dit trio heet dan wel (voorlopig nog) het Vansina trio maar is een echt trio, de som is groter dan de delen.Het werkt momenteel aan een nieuw repertoire. Voorjaar 2023 plannen ze een nieuwe CD. Verwacht geen swing maar alles waar de hedendaagse jazz voor staat: eigen composities, ritmische en harmonische virtuositeit en bovenal tonnen energie en speelplezier. A trio that plays unadulterated jazz, goes in search of the essence of the music, takes risks and plays together with enormous confidence in each other. The collaborations between Vansina and Verbruggen, which have now lasted 25 years in numerous projects, form a symbiotic duo for them. Louise succeeds in making herself part of their music with youthful energy, confidence and swagger. Like Gulli Gudmundsson in the VVG trio, Louise also contributes compositions. This trio may be called (for now) the Vansina trio, but it is a real trio, the sum is greater than the parts. It is currently working on a new repertoire. Spring 2023 they plan a new CD. Don't expect swing, but everything that contemporary jazz stands for: original compositions, rhythmic and harmonic virtuosity and, above all, tons of energy and playing pleasure. Donker. En aan de horizon kwam een klein lichtje. En de dingen werden duidelijker. En de bomen groeiden. En de dieren kregen lange sierlijke schaduwen in het warme licht van de zon. En Maité (het meisje) stond op en ontdekte de palmbomen op Hawaii en de muziek van Martin Denny.” Een absurd, darwinistisch scheppingsverhaal zonder woorden en met live muziek. De levenswandel van Maité, waarbij Godzilla, de giftige appel van sneeuwwitje, de eerste man op de maan en een gebraden kip, een rol spelen. Drie muzikanten en twee spelers creëren een filmisch verhaal in de stijl zoals kinderen kunnen spelen. Onbevangen en improviserend met elk attribuut, figuur of gedachte die hun pad kruist. Begeleidden de muzikanten het schimmenspel of dirigeren de schaduwen de muziek? Hoe je het ook bekijkt, klanken en vormen bewegen samen in Maité's exotische dans. “In the beginning there was nothing. Dark. And on the horizon came a little light. And things were discussed. And the trees grow. And the animals took on long graceful shadows in the warm light of the sun. And Maité (the girl) got up and discovered the palm trees in Hawaii and the music of Martin Denny.” An absurd, Darwinian creation story without words and with live music. Maité's walk in life, in which Godzilla, Snow White's poisonous apple, the first man on the moon and a roast chicken, play a role. Three musicians and two players create a cinematic story in the style of children's play. Uninhibited and improvising with every attribute, thought figure that crosses their path. Do the musicians accompany the shadow play or do the shadows conduct the music? No matter how you move assumption, sounds and forms together in Maité's exotic dance.
